Transfer Email

Windows Mail was the email client that came with Windows Vista. It was the replacement for Outlook Express (which is still loved and preferred by many people).

The most current release of Windows Mail is now Windows Live Mail, which can be downloaded for free from Microsofts web page.

Unless you want to stick with Windows Vista you will be forced to make a move to another email client when you change computer.

When I move from Windows Mail which email client should I use?

Please don't think that you have to use Windows Live Mail just because it is on your computer. Windows Live Mail is a free email client that generally comes with your Windows Operating System but there are other options.

Outlook 2007 comes with Microsoft Office and Outlook 2010 will replace Outlook 2007. Many people love Outlook and it is most likely the widest used email client for business use.

Thunderbird 3 is a great email client. It's free to download as it's open source, and has an active community and support. It also facilitates management of multiple email addresses. (And if you do want to synchronize your email on multiple computers further down the track it is the email client we recommend as it is the easiest to setup).

If you're switching to a Linux based operating system you can look at Thunderbird 3 or Evolution Mail.

And of course if you're moving from a PC to a Mac your options are Apple Mail, Entourage, or Thunderbird for Mac.
